Karpenisi ski resort is located in central Greece. Karpenisi Town is the capital of the regional unit of Evritania provence, in Greece. Karpenisi ski resort is situated in the valley of the river “Karpenisiotis”, a tributary of the “Megdovas” river, in the southern part of the “Pindos” Mountains sierra. Mountain “Tymfristos” is the last mountain of the sierra with an altitude of 2,315 meters, that lies on the north side of Karpenisi ski resort, while the foothills of mountain “Kaliakouda” lie on the south. Karpenisi is a popular ski resort in Greece and ideal for those who wish to combine skiing with religious tourism, as there is a find a great number of monasteries, churches and byzantine monuments.

Karpenisi Town and its great area including some very picturesque villages located in scenic spots coveted by virgin nature, in a pure green area among fir trees, pine trees and chestnut trees. Karpenissi ski resort is the appropriate destination for relaxation and adventure with many activities taking place in the greater area, such as rafting, horse riding, trekking, climbing, mountain bike and skiing. Within a few kilometer distance from Karpenisi ski resort, the visitor has the capability to discover picturesque villages and exquisite, overgrown areas. Some of these villages are Agios Nikolaos, Miriki, Korischades, Voutiro, Agios Andreas etc.

Agios Nikolaos is a magnificent village of Evritania, located at 9km from Karpenissi. Agios Nikolaos is famous for its chestnuts and its delicious bean s. At the square there is the old church of Agios Nikolaos built in 1887. At the around area there are also the country church of Agia Paraskevi and the spots Platanias, Krania and Palialona.

Myriki. It is a small village situated between fir trees, just 9 kilometers away from Karpenissi. At the center of the village there is the church of Saint Georgios and on the top of the village you will find the picturesque church of Prophet Helias with a traditional fountain.

Koryschades is a lovely, traditional village with old mansions, situated between fir trees, in an altitude of 960m. and 6 kilometers away from Karpenissi. At Koryschades the guest can visit the old mansions, the church of Saint Athanasios and the stone school which is used as a Museum. From Koryschades there are worth seeing, short destinations like Koumasia area where the Monastery of Panagia (Virgin Mary) is located, the gorge Pantavrechi, Kokkalia, the chestnut forest of Ai-Nikolas, the lake of Kremasta and Agrafa.

Voutyro is a nice settlement with great view, built on a slope and located 9 kilometers away from Karpenissi. There you will find the elder stone church of the prefecture, Saint Paraskevi. At the village there are hostels and small taverns.

Saint Andreas is located 8 kilometers away from Karpenissi. There you will find many natural sights like Astrapovrisi and Neraki. It is the birthplace of the hero of the Greek Revolution of 1821 Athanasios Karpenisiotis.

Karpenisi ski center, Greece:
Karpenisi ski center (often called Velouchi ski center) is located at a distance of 12 km away from Karpenisi Town, at an altitude of 1,840 meters on mountain Tymfristos, often called Velouchi. Karpenisi ski center is one of the oldest and most notable as well, ski centers in Greece, operating from 1974.

Karpenisi ski center is ideal for alpine skiing, mountaineering, freestyle skiing and off-piste skiing between the ski center and its surrounding white slopes. 11 ski slopes of high standards to suit all difficulty levels, are offered for all skiers and snowboarders, no matter if they are beginners or experienced.

The 2 organized snowboard tracks offer intense and entertaining moments for the lovers of the sport, but also to the people who just view the snowboarders’ tricks. As for the more daring and adventurous, there is more ski action and adventure in various off-piste ski routes. The facilities of Karpenisi also have modern lifts, operating to the highest safety standards.

Karpenisi Sightseeing:
Statue of the greek revolution heroe, Markos Botsaris
Karpenisi Town, Karpenisi Ski Resort
Just 2 km away from Karpenissi Town is the area of “Kefalovriso” where one of the most important greek heroes of the greek revolution –Markos Botsaris- was killed. The statue is at the spot where he died, fighting for the freedom of Greece agains Turks.

Virgin Mary of Proussos, Monastery

The Holy Monastery of Panagia Prousiotissa (Virgin Mary of Proussos) is located 31km. away from Karpenisi ski resort and owes its name to the miraculous image of "Our Lady of Rumeli" the Virgin Mary “Prousiotissa”. The monastery is built on the edges of the large mountains slopes of “Kaliakouda” and “Helidonis”.

It is a historic monastery wedged between vertical gray rocks in a wild and majestic at the same time, natural scenery. According to the legend, the icon of Virgin Mary was in a temple of Bursa Town, in Turkey. During the period of iconoclasm, a lord who intended to transfer the Virgin Mary icon to Greece for safety lost the icon, and the icon of Virgin Mary was found where the monastery was built.

Furthermore, on the gray rocks below the monastery, you can see the marked foot prints, where according to the legend, Virgin Mary walked. At this point you will see a small icon where you can light a candle. The foot print signs are marked on the rock for easy identification. The monastery celebrates every 23d of August and attracts many visitors to Karpenisi ski resort.
